La 58ª edición de los Grammy entrega sus premios de música clásica

La 58ª edición de los Premios Grammy, que reconoce grabaciones de todos los géneros musicales del período comprendido entre el 1 de octubre de 2014 y el 30 de septiembre de 2015, ha entregado sus galardones a la música clásica en una ceremonia menor, celebrada al mediodía en el Microsoft Theater de Los Ángeles, una sede diferente a la de los premios de música popular. La mayoría de los premios, entregados por profesionales del sector, han correspondido a artistas estadounidenses o afincados en ese país. La mezzosoprano estadounidense Joyce DiDonato conseguía su segundo Grammy como mejor solista vocal por un recital con Antonio Pappano grabado en vivo en el Wigmore Hall de Londres. El premio al mejor disco de ópera fue para el ex-titular de la Boston Symphony, Seiji Ozawa, por su grabación con la japonesa Saito Kinen Orchestra y con dos cantantes norteamericanas, Isabel Leonard y Susan Graham, de L’enfant et les sortilèges de Ravel.

Los Premios Grammy entregan 10 de sus 83 galardones a grabaciones, composiciones y artistas de música clásica. La Academia Norteamericana de las Artes y las Ciencias Discográficas (NARAS) destina a la música culta ocho premios en el apartado artístico que incluyen mejor interpretación orquestal, operística, coral camerística, solista instrumental y vocal, mejor recopilación y mejor composición, y dos en el apartado técnico, al mejor productor y al mejor trabajo de ingeniería sonora.

La mejor interpretación coral correspondió al local Charles Bruffy y sus coros de Kansas y Phoenix con su disco de Rachmaninov (Chandos). El premio a la mejor interpretación orquestal recayó en el letón Andris Nelsons al frente de la Boston Symphony por el inicio de su proyecto fonográfico Shostakovich para Deutsche Grammophon. El galardón al mejor solista instrumental fue para el violinista alemán Augustin Hadelich por su interpretación de L’arbre des songes de Dutilleux. El premio a la mejor interpretación de cámara fue para el conjunto instrumental estadounidense Eight Blackbird por su Filament (Cedille).  Los premios a mejor compendio clásico (Naxos) o mejor composición contemporánea clásica por su obra Prayers and Remembrances (Reference Recordings) constituyeron un homenaje póstumo al compositor estadounidense Stephen Paulus (1949-2014).

En el apartado técnico, Ask your Mama (Avie Records) de la compositora norteamericana Laura Karpman, se llevó el Grammy a la mejor ingeniería de sonido y el de la mejor producción clásica, por el trabajo de la estadounidense Judith Sherman, que conseguía su cuarto gramófono .
